Project

Stool for Bellini.
A bespoke functional object, a stool relating to the collection's famous Renaissance portrait of Giovanni Bellini. Developed for the exhibition Mindst ét minut at Nivaagaards Malerisamling.
The design of the object elaborates on characteristic (uncomfortable) chair designs in the Italian Renaissance from around the same period and area as the portrait. The three-legged rigid construction is the base of a complete geometric structure which varies, shifts and reflects its arithmetic shape theme.
In various cultures, geometry has been used to describe the universe and nature. The unique beauty that can emerge when design is born out of geometric principles, seems to have a consistent quality across time, culture and context.

The idea behind the exhibition is to create a series of situations that inspire the art enthusiast to form a deeper connection with a selection of artworks.
The dialogue between an artwork and related art forms can contribute to generating new perspectives and angles in relation to the understanding and experience of a piece.
Eight designers/artists are invited to design a seating piece that responds to a specific painting.

The furniture should embody the ambition of dissolving the sense of time, encouraging the viewer to spend more time with the artwork and to engage with it visually, analytically, and emotionally.
The intention is to create a symbiotic relationship between the two objects, thereby adding an extra dimension to the experience.
